Purina approached with a lot of questions about what we thought was important in the design and development of the app they were building for their Petcentric program. Simplicity of use was first on our creative team’s list. For the pet owner on the go, we also wanted the app to be intuitive while still attractive. Users can quickly log in and find hotels, restaurants or public places that are compatible with their four-legged family members, but the interface remains friendly and inviting without seeming utilitarian.

I’m including the Purina Petcentric app design in my portfolio for both for its impact and its design. Although it’s 11 years old, the illustrations and layout still hold up today, showing that thoughtful design choices can be as relevant years later as they were at launch. This app more than doubled Petcentric.com’s mobile penetration, increasing from 20% to 44%, and helped achieve a 49% increase in fans and a 395% boost in monthly reach—all without paid ads. And the app went on to win the FWA Mobile App of the Day Award.
